OMG Grace! Is that ALL you do….. talk about your foot?

Well that’s not ALL that I talk about, but since there is not much that I can do without it  affecting me, yes I talk about my foot A LOT.  And my wheelchair, but I have that because of my foot, so I guess it’s about the same huh?

I promise to write about something other than my foot soon, but first I would like to share some updates for anyone that is interested.

0402201617First of all, I have now been casted in every different color material available.  Who would have thought that something like that would go on my list of “achievements”?!?!?0402201529

Secondly,  while there is still no end in sight about the amount of time I will be non- weight bearing and in a cast, the incisions appear to be healing well and I am no longer in much pain.

0422201927Third, while I swear I have not put any weight on my right foot, I can’t say that I haven’t been a bit self destructive during my recovery. Not only did I have a bit of an obsession with tearing apart one of my casts, but I also attempted to go down two stairs by myself and ended up being launched from the wheelchair.  Thankfully, the doctor said the x-rays showed the only damage I did was to my pride.  Yay for me!!!!

  2. Wow! That is a lot of hardware!!! All those tiny bones…are you going to have full range-of-motion when you’ve healed? Good question about recovery and following ‘orders’…I may make a post of it 🙂

    1. Full range of motion is a tricky one. In some areas like toward the tip of my big toe, none. The lisfranc fusion, should actually provide more stability…. At this point, standing would be a great improvement. I do believe I will be able to walk again, but I will have to relearn, or modify how I do it. I’m taking it one day at a time for now, well trying to at least. I would love to read your post if you choice to make it

  3. I reckon you must have a record with cast colours. I’m so glad the incisions are healing and there’s a little less pain, that’s something. I’m hoping you’ve learned your lesson with the stairs and doing too much. That broken pride needs time to heal too! I’ve not really had an injury like this, but surgeries? Mooooonths to recover fully. The damage I did to my ribs from the coughing with the chest infections took several weeks before I could lie down again, months to really heal fully. I hope you have oodles of patience, Grace. Please, please be careful. I hope the tootsie healing goes smoothly  ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

    1. Coughing like that sounds so painful! Yikes! Having trouble breathing or not be able to catch my breath is one thing I can admit scares the hell out of me. Patience is something I am sorely lacking. 😦

  4. Oh my goodness Grace! That’s a lot of hardware in there, and an impressive range of cast colors….. I’m glad your incisions are healing well and I hope the bones follow suit. I also hope you don’t have anymore ‘incidents’ that result in your being launched from your wheelchair (or anything else for that matter). Take care of yourself!

  5. wow! your impants are big and beautiful! 🙂 and look very painful. Please take care of yourself……..I have had surgery and I’ll be honest they told me 6-8 week recovery………10 years later, this surgery spot is still too painful to touch.

    1. I can definitely “brag” about my hardware huh?. I am sorry that you still have pain from the surgery spot. ( I had a laminectimy in my spine years ago which is also still painful) Mechanically my foot should work now. no guarantees about the pain 😦

      1. Oh my goodness, that is exactly what I had that still causes me pain, a laminectimy! It is so painful and I know it will never heal. I am SO sorry you have been through this too!
        YES girl, you can big time brag about your hardware……….you are totally rockin’ it!!!
        Please, please stay off your foot until you are suppose to walk!!!!!!!

  6. Well, I must admit the title of this post got my attention! (oink oink). You foot looks awful, and I say that with the utmost empathy. It must have hurt like hell!

    Try not to injure yourself any further please. You’ve been dealing with this for longer than I can remember, and I can’t begin to fathom how much this must suck! I want you to be able to literally kick ass soon.

    1. Bojana ty for checking in! Not much pain imo means manageable without any pain meds or otc drugs. I still know it’s there and its uncomfortable but it’s not (well it wasn’t foremost in my mind). The surgeon has given me the go ahead to slowly start walking with a walker or crutches (he calls it limited weightbearing) so it does hurt like hell again, but it is still progress. I’m glad to hear I am not the only one who would tear it apart. 🙂
